7. If Databeacon has used smart client technology since 1995 (starting with its Java product) why is it calling the new product Databeacon Smart Client?

Microsoft is extensively marketing smart client technology as part of its .NET Framework initiative. Because of the company’s Mid-market dominance, “smart client” is quickly being associated with Microsoft. In order to avoid confusion with our Java-based products and to leverage Microsoft’s market penetration, our new product family—built on Microsoft’s .NET Framework—is called Databeacon Smart Client. Our Java-based product family (formerly called Databeacon Collaboration Edition) is now called Databeacon Open Client.
